An oil tanker has struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz and is on fire, according to Iranian reports cited by state-controlled media.

The tanker had switched off its transponders and was attempting to sail through a zone that Iran considers closed, the Iranian military stated, according to sources including the news agency Mehr.

The incident reportedly caused a fire on board the vessel. At this initial stage, the information cannot be verified.
