Eritrea accuses Ethiopia: "Declaration of war"
Eritrea is calling on the UN Security Council to take "deterrent measures" following what it describes as a "declaration of war" by Ethiopia.
The two countries have previously accused each other of declaring war over Tigray, where Ethiopian government forces are fighting Tigrayan rebels and where Eritrea is accused of entering the conflict on the rebels' side. Eritrea recently sent forces to Tigray, prompting Ethiopia to respond with airstrikes.
"Eritrea asks the UN Security Council to strongly condemn Ethiopia's deplorable declaration of war against Eritrea and to take the necessary deterrent measures," writes Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh in a letter to the Security Council.
The escalating hostilities are raising fears that a major war could break out in East Africa.
