Pope to undergo surgery – growth discovered
A growth has been discovered in Pope Leo's lungs.
He must now be admitted to the hospital.
Pope Leo XIV, 71, must undergo surgery after a small growth—a so-called nodule—was discovered in his lungs.
He announced this during the Sunday prayer.
The growth was detected at an early stage, and the surgery is scheduled to take place within the next few days, according to the Pope.
The nature of the growth is not yet known.
Leo XIV was elected Pope in May 2025, succeeding Pope Francis.
