Eritrea accuses Ethiopia of declaring war
Eritrea accuses Ethiopia of declaring war and is asking the UN Security Council to take action against its neighbor, AFP reports.
Ethiopia has told the Security Council that it is acting in self-defense against Eritrea, which is accused of a "full-scale invasion" of the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia.
"We haven't been this close to full-scale war in over 25 years," says SVT’s Africa correspondent Johan Ripås.
Both countries have accused each other of declaring war over Tigray. Eritrea is accused of joining forces with the Tigrayan rebel groups that the Ethiopian military is fighting.
Earlier this week, Eritrea sent troops to Tigray, a move to which Ethiopia responded with airstrikes.
