Ukraine sends diplomats to the US for new talks
A group of Ukrainian peace negotiators, including former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, has traveled to the US for new peace talks, according to multiple media reports.
The delegation is traveling to Miami to meet with President Donald Trump’s negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Talks are scheduled for both Friday and Saturday.
"We expect a European delegation to join both our negotiating team and the US team," says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The talks reportedly focus on intensified diplomatic efforts and preparations for a potential trilateral meeting between the US, Russia, and Ukraine.
Sources: Trump’s negotiators have "new ideas" for Ukraine
During Friday's meeting between Ukraine and Donald Trump’s negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the US delegation is expected to present "new ideas and proposals" regarding peace. This is according to both US and Ukrainian sources speaking to Axios.
One of the proposals reportedly involves Ukraine and Russia ceasing attacks on energy infrastructure and grain shipments. Ukraine has agreed to similar proposals in the past, whereas Russia has shown limited willingness to cooperate.
"It’s going to be a tough winter if the war doesn’t end. The US is trying to mediate with the goal of coming up with a unifying proposal," a US source tells the site.
