US President Donald Trump announces that he has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that they have reached an agreement regarding large Russian diesel shipments to the US and global markets.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticizes the agreement.

"We agreed that Russia would immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel to the US and global markets, an additional 500,000 tons during the month of November, and 1,000,000 tons immediately thereafter," Trump writes on Truth Social.

He adds that another 3 million tons of Russian diesel—equivalent to 22.5 million barrels—will be released shortly, an agreement he says is contingent on "the condition of their diesel refineries."

"Terror and betrayal"

"Thanks to our total control over the Strait of Hormuz and this fantastic news regarding Russian energy, diesel prices for Americans—and indeed for the entire world—will drop sharply and rapidly," Trump further claims. Gifts to Vladimir Putin will not bring peace, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes in a post on X.

"Russia will 'repay' the diesel with further terror and betrayal. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products

is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged," Zelenskyy writes on X.

No mention of the war of aggression

Trump makes no mention of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine or sanctions against Russia in his statement.

The US Department of the Treasury has issued a temporary license to facilitate the trade of Russian diesel on the US market, AFP reports.

Leaders of the G7 nations, including the US, agreed last week to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from their emergency reserves.

For several months, Moscow has restricted diesel exports to secure domestic supplies following Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.
