The Middle East Crisis Israel-Hezbollah

Israel bombs dangerously close to Lebanese hospitals

Israel has dropped bombs "within lethal range" of at least 19 Lebanese hospitals, which are protected under international law, a CNN analysis shows.

- I was treating a patient when the bomb exploded. I fell over him from the pressure wave, says emergency nurse Mohammad Fouani at the Rafik Hariri hospital, the largest in the country.

According to Lebanese authorities, 34 hospitals have been damaged in Israeli attacks, 111 health workers have been killed and 107 ambulances have been hit.

The IDF claims that Hezbollah is placing military equipment near medical facilities as part of a "human shield" strategy.

At least 52 killed in Israeli airstrikes in eastern Lebanon

Israel carried out extensive airstrikes in and around the city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon on Friday. According to the local authorities, at least 52 people have been killed in several towns and villages in the region, AP reports. 72 were injured in the attacks.

Emergency services are still looking for people who are missing. In one of the airstrikes, a house was razed to the ground. 20 people are said to have been in the building, according to the Ministry of Health.

Ahead of the attacks, Israel urged residents in and around Baalbek to leave their homes. In total, 60 000 people were forced to flee.
