Trump: Has Canceled Attacks on Iran
Donald Trump has canceled planned attacks on Iran. The president wrote this in a post on Truth Social.
According to Trump, the decision is due to progress in peace talks with Iran.
“The discussions and final terms have been approved, in principle and in detail, by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and others,” he wrote.
He also wrote that the time and place for an agreement to be signed will be announced shortly. Until then, the US blockade of Iranian ports will remain in place.
Reports: Tehran trip yields breakthrough – agreement is close
While the US and Iran have carried out attacks on each other this week, diplomatic attempts have been made to reach a solution – and it has borne fruit, according to information to the Financial Times and Axios.
According to the FT, a delegation from the mediating country Qatar traveled to Tehran on Wednesday for talks that are now said to have led to a breakthrough. An agreement is said to be “very close” and, according to Axios’ sources, it concerns three areas where the parties have so far been far apart.
The delegations are said to have discussed, among other things, how Iran should gain access to frozen assets and how the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened. The proposal would involve a ceasefire for 60 days and that the parties negotiate Iran’s nuclear energy program in the meantime, according to the information.
