Trump nominates new director of intelligence
Donald Trump nominates Attorney General Jay Clayton to the position of new permanent director of intelligence in the United States.
President Trump writes on his Truth Social platform.
“Few people in the legal world are as respected as Jay. I urge the US Senate to confirm Jay as soon as possible,” Trump writes.
Current US intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard will leave her post on June 19. She has previously announced that she is resigning to spend more time with her cancer-stricken husband.
Trump initially appointed Bill Pulte to the position of acting director of intelligence, but the nomination met with harsh criticism from both Democrats and Republicans. This is because Pulte, who heads the agency that oversees mortgage institutions in the United States, lacks experience in national intelligence work.
