US drastically shortens visas for foreign journalists
The US will drastically shorten the validity period of visas for foreign journalists, reports the AP. From previously being valid for up to five years, visas are now limited to 240 days. For Chinese journalists, the validity period is further shortened, to 90 days.
The decision was announced by the Trump administration on Thursday and will take effect 60 days after it is published in the Federal Register.
Congress can overturn the decision, but this is considered unlikely, writes the AP.
Journalists will still be able to apply to extend their visas before they expire.

Trump urges Darline Graham to run in the elections
Donald Trump is urging the late Senator Lindsey Graham's sister Darline Graham to run in the midterm elections. The president writes this on Truth Social.
Darline Graham was sworn in earlier this week as acting senator for South Carolina, succeeding her brother.
Since Lindsey Graham won the Republican primary before his death, the state has called a special primary on August 11 to select a new candidate.
It has been reported during the day that Darline Graham may run, but her staff has not yet commented on the information.
"If she decides to run, she has my full and wholehearted support in the by-election," Trump writes.
