A schism between the US and Israel appears to be worsening after Vice President JD Vance accused several Israeli ministers of campaigning for a US-led war in Iran for an "indefinite period".

In an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, Vance accused several ministers in the Israeli government of trying to influence and "manipulate" American opinion about the Iran war, the Reuters news agency reports on its website.

Vance has pushed for an end to the war. He has been the face of the negotiations with the regime in Tehran and continues to defend the line of diplomatic settlement with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and the country's nuclear energy program.

“There have undoubtedly been people within the Israeli government who are trying, as it were, de facto to get us to abandon that policy because they want to continue the military campaign. Indefinitely,” Vance said.

“What bothers me is when these campaigns actually affect American political judgment.”

Vance’s stance is at odds with the Israeli one.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday stressed Israel’s need to remain militarily present in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza until Iranian-backed militias no longer pose a threat.

In the peace talks, Iran has demanded that Israel leave Lebanon and end its offensive against Hezbollah.

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said he would no longer travel to the United States after the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham was postponed. No formal meeting with President Donald Trump was scheduled — but Netanyahu has said he looked forward to meeting Trump.
