Hackers from Iran have managed to shut down a power plant in the UK this summer, reports The Telegraph. The power plant is believed to be of the smaller type, but the cyberattack is described as the first successful of its kind.

According to The Telegraph's information, the power plant was down for four days before staff were finally able to fix the problems.

The newspaper mentions that water infrastructure in twelve states in the US was attacked at the same time, but it is unclear whether there is any direct connection.

Intelligence services in several Western countries have often warned that hackers from Russia, Iran and several malicious states can knock out crucial societal functions.

This time, the attack had no clear effect on the British energy system. Which power plant and what type of facility it is is unclear, but the UK has many small power plants that are only used from time to time.
