Pakistan's military chief to Iran for talks
Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir, who has participated in Pakistani mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, is traveling to the Iranian capital Tehran in a likely attempt to resume talks.
The announcement of the visit comes from Defense Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei, who said the visit is intended to strengthen bilateral relations.
But attempts to mediate peace are also on the agenda as the visit is part of "Pakistan's ongoing efforts to support peace and security in the region".
Pakistan has previously signed a joint defense agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkey in August, which is seen as a way to balance Iran's regional influence.
