Mossad chief meets with Syrian foreign minister
Syrian Foreign Minister met with the head of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad in Jordan on Sunday, two sources with knowledge of the matter told the AFP news agency.
The meeting took place a few days after an Israeli attack on a military airport in northwestern Syria. The incident has increased tensions between the two countries and also between Israel and Turkey.
Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Mossad chief Roman Gofman discussed issues such as establishing a “special operations department” in Jordan under American supervision to prevent confrontations between the countries involved.
Israel’s attack on the Abu al-Duhur air base took place shortly after a Turkish delegation had visited the site. According to Israel, Syria was on the verge of violating an agreement by giving Turkey access to the base.
