UN critical of Iran's handling of nuclear energy

The board of the UN nuclear agency IAEA is demanding that the issue of Iran's nuclear energy management be raised in the UN Security Council.

The UN agency, headquartered in Vienna, announced on Wednesday that Iran is not cooperating in attempts to ascertain the situation with the country's nuclear energy facilities. 23 countries voted in favor of the issue being put on the Security Council's table, 3 voted against and 8 abstained.

China, which is part of the board, voted against the resolution.

This is the first time that Iran's secrecy surrounding nuclear energy facilities has been brought up on the Security Council's table. Behind the resolution are the United States, Britain, France and Germany. Both China and Russia can veto a resolution targeting Tehran.

Several nuclear facilities have been damaged in the ongoing war between Iran and the United States. The West fears that Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons.
