Drones deliver relief aid after Nepal disaster

Nepal's military is using drones to deliver relief aid to areas hit by devastating floods, Reuters reports.

- Most of our helicopters are busy with rescue operations. There is no other way to send food, medicine and fuel except by drones, says drone pilot Santosh Budhathoki.

Many roads and bridges in the area have been completely destroyed. The drones can carry up to 60 kilograms and can be used from about 3-4 kilometers away.

• A 600-meter-wide glacier collapsed in the Himalayas on August 26, 2026, causing massive flooding and landslides in Nepal and Tibet.
• The death toll rose rapidly, with over 1,000 confirmed dead, while 5,000 are still missing nine days after the disaster.
• The disaster hit hydroelectric power plants in particular, with hundreds of workers trapped in mud-filled tunnels, with two people found alive after nine days.
• Rescue efforts have been hampered by damaged roads, new flooding and a shortage of medicine, with at least 93,000 people in urgent need of assistance.
• Climate change and rising temperatures have been identified as contributing factors to the glacier collapse, and Nepal has appealed for global support to combat the climate crisis.
