Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that regime change in Iran is "very close" imminent.

The statement came as Netanyahu visited Mount Hermon on the border between Israel and Syria.

- There is still work to be completed - the main goal is to overthrow the terrorist regime in Iran. We are very close to that, Netanyahu said in a video recording.

The visit was made ahead of the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah, which is celebrated this weekend. Along for the trip was right-wing politician and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

- We are sending a sharp message to the Syrian president, who is sitting 35 kilometers from here in his palace in Damascus. We are here on Mount Hermon, in a security zone, and we are not moving.

Israel has had a military presence in the so-called safe zone since Syria's former dictator was overthrown in 2024, an area previously guarded by UN forces.
