Scholz wears eye patch after fall: "Looking forward to memes"  

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz now wears an eyepatch. “I'm looking forward to memes.  

Thanks for the well wishes, it looks worse than it is!” writes Scholz himself on the platform X, formerly Twitter. 

Scholz fell during a run this weekend. Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit tells German Bild that Scholz is doing well under the circumstances. He canceled a campaign rally this weekend, but will follow through on all commitments this week.

Successful landing on Earth after six months in space  

 

The four astronauts who were part of the NASA and Space X mission Crew-6 have returned to Earth from the International Space Station. The space capsule crashed into the ocean off Florida on Monday morning, US media write.  

 

According to CNN, the astronauts have supervised more than 200 research projects during their six months in space. A week ago, the mission was taken over by Crew-7. 

 

Before arriving on Earth, the astronauts said they longed for a hot shower, hot coffee and to feel the sea breeze, AP writes.  

 

- It has been a great adventure and a lot of fun, said astronaut Warren Hoburg at the end of August.

Climate summit in Africa: "Not here to complain"  

 

Representatives of a long line of African countries are gathering today in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, for the continent's first joint climate summit. 

 

On the agenda are climate finance, climate adaptation and reaching a common stance ahead of the UN climate summit COP28 in Dubai later this year, writes The Independent.  

 

African countries are among the hardest hit by climate change, while their carbon dioxide emissions are among the lowest. But Kenya's President William Ruto points out that one should focus on the opportunities – for example, Africa's large mineral resources that can be important in the green transition.
