Rothstein's boot against the Riksbank: "Why is independence entrusted at all?"  

The Riksbank seems to be failing in its most important tasks: to fight inflation and keep the value of the krona up. But what is most worrying is that it seems to lack the knowledge to understand why. That's what Bo Rothstein, senior professor of political science in Gothenburg, writes on DN Debatt.  

Rothstein writes that the Riksbank's decision has a major impact on households, while the interest rate increases fatten the banks' profits.  

"This raises the question of why the Riksbank should be entrusted with independence at all," writes the professor and calls for a discussion on the "dogma" of independent central banks.

UAE wants to regulate gambling - could become legal 

The United Arab Emirates has created a federal authority to regulate the gaming industry. It could potentially pave the way for the legalization of gambling in the country, several media reports.

According to AFP, casino giants have flocked to the nation and it has long been rumored that the gaming sector could be a way to boost capital inflows to the UAE. In addition, legal gambling can provide a boost to the tourism industry, especially in Dubai.  

Among other things, the American casino giant Wynn Resorts plans to establish itself in Ras Al Khaimah, just outside Dubai, writes Bloomberg.

The development of electric cars  

Chinese electric car manufacturers are keeping pace  

China's economy is limping, but for the Chinese electric car manufacturers, sales are ticking along. This is reported by international media.  

Nio, Xpeng and BYD have all reported August numbers that are higher than manufacturers' forecast monthly sales for the third quarter.  

In July, figures showed that BYD has overtaken Tesla in the Chinese market, albeit with hybrids included in the figures.
