Analysis: Praying Biden spoke to America's doubters 

In his speech to the nation, US President Joe Biden spoke about both the Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas war, but it was mostly about the United States, writes CNN's Stephen Collinson in an analysis. 

  

According to Collinson, he "begged" his own country to honor the foreign policy role that the United States has historically had. And the speech did not come in a political vacuum, but in a time when the United States is deeply divided and an election against Donald Trump is likely imminent, he writes. In terms of foreign policy, it will be a battle between Biden's internationalism and Trump's "America First" policy, according to Collinson.  

 

DN's Ingmar Nevéus is doubtful whether Biden has succeeded in convincing the American voters, and especially the politicians in Congress who are expected to vote on a support package of 100 billion dollars for Israel and Ukraine, but also security on the border with Mexico. 

 

"Combining the two conflicts into one package - and also throwing in money for border security - is a tactic Biden hopes will secure the support he needs in Congress."  

 

Sky News' Mark Stone describes the speech as a form of "persuasion" aimed at those Americans who doubt American influence in the world.

Measurement: Majority gives Biden right for Israel support  

A majority of Americans support the country's strong support for Israel, according to a new opinion poll that CNN refers to.  

 

52 percent believe that the US approach to the war is the right one. Other voters are not satisfied, but for different reasons. One half of them wants to see greater support for Israel, while the other thinks that support for the allied country is too strong. 

 

President Joe Biden has been criticized by some party members for how he handled the Israel-Hamas war, but is supported by a majority of Democratic voters. 

 

The survey also shows that voters sympathize with Israel to a much greater extent than with Palestine
