Secret ballot tonight - Jordan gets to step aside
In a secret ballot Friday night, Republicans decided to drop the nomination of Jim Jordan for the post of speaker, ABC News reports.
- We are back to square one, Republican Dusty Johnson said afterwards according to CNN.
The plan is for a new candidate to be presented on Tuesday. Until a new Speaker has been appointed, the Congress cannot make any decisions. This has created frustration among American politicians who, for example, are prevented from acting in the war between Israel and Hamas.
- We must come together and find out who our chairman will be. I will work as hard as I can to help that person so that we can help the American people, Jordan commented on the decision.

Jordan fell again – support within the party is getting weaker
Republican Jim Jordan has lost a third presidential vote, US media reports.
During Friday's vote in the House of Representatives, support within one's own party also decreased compared to the first and second rounds. The number of Republicans who oppose Jordan's attempt has increased from 20 to 25, and Jordan was far from getting a majority of the vote, AP writes.
The Republicans have 221 seats while the Democrats have 212.
