Analysis: Crisis is the new normal for Americans
When the United States was on the brink of another crippling shutdown of the state apparatus, the average American did not seem to care much, writes Peter Baker in an analysis for the New York Times.
Google's search statistics from the last few days show that the murder of the rapper Tupac Shakur, the reality series "The golden bachelor" and even National Coffee Day attracted more interest, he continues.
"It seems that America has come to expect crises [...] dysfunction is the new normal."
Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy is the big winner after the vote – he convinced members of both parties who believed a shutdown was on the way. Emily Brooks, Mychael Schnell and Al Weaver write for The Hill.
The Republicans' right wing - which dangled the demand for resignation over the speaker's head - did not go completely without luck, they continue.
"The hard-line conservatives didn't win much from the provisional budget, but removing aid to Ukraine from it was a clear victory.

Right Republican: Will try to oust McCarthy
Matt Gaetz, a leading figure on the Republican right flank in the United States, will try to unseat Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He tells CNN that.
- I intend to table a motion to remove the speaker this week. It's time to rip off the band-aid.
This after McCarthy, with the help of democratic votes, got through a provisional budget to stop a shutdown of the American state apparatus. The right-wing Republicans had threatened in advance that it could cost him his job.
McCarthy was forced to co-trade with the right wing to take the Speaker's post in January, which required 15 votes.
