Several heat records for September in Europe
Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland and Switzerland. They all recorded their warmest measured September ever this year, writes The Guardian.
In France, where it is still above 30 degrees in some places, the average temperature in September was 21.5 degrees. It is around 3.5 degrees warmer than the period from 1991 to 2020.
The same deviation was measured in Poland, while Belgium and Germany had a month of September almost four degrees warmer than normal.
Outside the Spanish city of Córdoba, what is believed to be a European heat record for the month, 45.7 degrees, was measured on September 5.
2023 looks set to be the hottest year ever experienced by humans, according to the EU's Copernicus Earth observation programme.

British beaver cub targeted - first time in 400 years
For the first time in over 400 years, a baby beaver has been seen in London, The Telegraph reports.
The animal became extinct in Britain sometime during the Elizabethan era in the late 16th century, when it was hunted for its meat and fur.
Last year, the north London borough of Enfield launched an initiative to reintroduce the beaver, as part of a larger rewilding and flood protection campaign.
- The beaver's hard work in creating a natural wetland ecosystem will contribute to excellent flood protection [...] and promote biodiversity, says the municipality's environmental officer Rick Jewell.
