Criticism of Hegseth grows: “He is insecure”

Trust in US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has declined significantly among Republican senators since the war with Iran began, reports The Hill.

The criticism is, among other things, that the Pentagon failed to anticipate the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s willingness to attack neighboring countries.

The fact that the conflict has also spread to the Red Sea, where the Houthi rebels have become increasingly active, has led several Republicans to believe that the Pentagon was tricked.

“I think he is insecure, he lacks experience in leading larger organizations and he is too detail-oriented. He has lost my trust,” says Senator Thom Tillis of Hegseth.

Confidence in Hegseth has also reportedly declined within the Pentagon. A Republican senator, speaking anonymously, tells The Hill that dissatisfaction with the Secretary of Defense is widespread even within the department.

If talks with Iran fail, the United States will take “major military action.” That’s what President Donald Trump tells Axios.

At the same time, he says that patience for diplomacy is limited.

“Either it goes fast, or it doesn’t go at all,” he says.
