Trump: Good talks with Iran
The US and Iran are having “good talks” about a possible peace deal. This is stated by Donald Trump, but contradicted by Iran, which claims that the parties are not talking to each other.
The US has paused its attacks on Iran after a direct appeal from Iran, the US president claims.
– They asked us very kindly, “please stop,” says Trump aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, and adds:
– If we don’t get a deal, we will go back (to attacking).
Earlier on Monday, Trump told the news site Axios that he decided on Friday to suspend the attacks on Iran after mediators asked him to give diplomacy a chance.
Iran, however, is playing down talk of talks.
– Mediators convey messages from the American side. But at the moment we are not involved in negotiations with the United States," said Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry.
