Cambridge professor Jason Arday was found dead after a summer of plagiarism allegations and intense media coverage. Now demands are being raised for a public investigation into the media's actions.
The media coverage drove Arday to death, according to the non-profit Good Law Project, which is behind the request for an independent review.
More than 90,000 people have signed the organization's open letter, accusing the British media of "relentless harassment" based on racism.
41-year-old Arday, who in 2023 became prestigious Cambridge's youngest black professor of all time, was declared dead on Friday. He had recently left his role at the university, following allegations of plagiarism in a thesis and questions about his other credentials.
On Monday, more than 30,000 people attended a memorial service for Arday in central London, according to British media.
