Hichilema re-elected as president of Zambia

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has been re-elected with 60 percent of the vote, according to the country's electoral commission.

He was challenged by 13 other politicians in an election campaign that critics claim was heavily controlled by the incumbent government with allegations of intimidation, violence and arrests.

- We feel humbled by the trust we have received, said Hakainde Hichilema after the election results.

Hichilema has been in power since 2021 and the election result was expected, according to AFP.
