Moscow threatens London with a "high price" for Ukraine support
Moscow
is threatening Britain after Ukraine for the first time reportedly used
British drones against targets inside Russia, British media report.
The
Russian embassy in London accuses Britain of "deliberately escalating
the Ukraine crisis" and warns in a statement of consequences:
"The
deeper Britain gets involved in the conflict and the more support it
gives to Kyiv's terrorist machinery, the higher the price will be."
Britain
responds that the country stands firm in its support for Ukraine and
will continue to provide the country with equipment to defend itself
against the Russian invasion.
- Russia should not doubt this
government's determination to resist Russian aggression, says a
spokesman for the Ministry of Defense according to The Guardian.
Latvia: We protect the EU - give us more money
Latvia
wants seven billion euros in next year's EU budget to cover the costs
of its hard line against Russia, reports Politico. That's half of the
country's defense spending over the seven-year budget period.
A
growing Latvian public opinion believes that countries bordering Russia
are bearing an unreasonably high cost for military buildup and the
economic losses caused by the closed trade route to the east.
The
country is taking out loans to protect EU countries further away from
Russia, and a large part of the money is being spent on weapons from
richer countries such as Germany, France and Sweden, according to Prime
Minister Andris Kulbergs.
- Our budget deficit is skyrocketing, and with that debt we pay for the defense of all of Europe, he says.
