Macron on possible "Breturn": "Good news – come back"

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has today opened the door to a "Breturn"—that is, returning to the EU after Brexit. French President Emmanuel Macron thinks this is a very good idea, AFP reports.

"If the British want to come back, I think that is very good news for both his country and for Europeans," Macron said during a press conference in Madrid.

He added:

"Come back."

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez agrees, stating that Spain would "open its arms to its brotherly people" if the UK were to apply to rejoin the EU.

Burnham open to British re-entry into the EU

The UK could go all the way toward rejoining the EU. Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the BBC that the government will consider various options for the country's long-term relationship with the union.

"We have to look at what is feasible and the pros and cons of each option," he told the BBC.

Maintaining the current relationship with the EU is also an option. Burnham says he wants to try to find a broad consensus within the country regarding which path the UK should choose.
