Le Pen: "Time for journalists to put on Kevlar vests"
Far-right politician Marine Le Pen has lashed out at the French media after her party colleague Jordan Bardella was accused of making antisemitic statements in an investigative report by the outlet Mediapart, *Le Monde* reports.
"Now I think it is time for Mediapart to put on Kevlar vests. Because there will obviously be a reaction to the way they are behaving," Le Pen said during a press conference.
Kevlar is the material used to make bulletproof vests. The statement has been interpreted as a direct threat against journalists by, among others, the French left and the organization Reporters Without Borders.
Marine Le Pen ally accused of severe antisemitism
The French far-right party National Rally (*Rassemblement National*), led by Marine Le Pen, has been shaken in recent days by accusations that senior party figure Jordan Bardella made antisemitic statements. French media are reporting the story.
According to an investigation by the French outlet Mediapart, Bardella allegedly wrote, among other things, that "all banks are controlled by Jews" and "the Jew must dominate other peoples, crush them, and rob them." This reportedly took place in 2013, when Bardella was 17 or 18 years old.
Bardella categorically denies the accusations, claiming they are an attempt to destabilize Marine Le Pen's presidential campaign.
