Iranian Guard: Several vessels attacked
At least seven vessels are on fire in or near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the navy of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, as reported by media in Tehran.
The Guard has reiterated warnings to shipping companies, stating that it is dangerous to attempt what Iran terms "illegal" shipping routes between the Persian Gulf and the open seas.
According to the Revolutionary Guard, Iran has attacked four vessels that were transferring oil between tankers in the northern Persian Gulf. The Guard further claims that three other vessels struck mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The transport of fossil fuels in the region has been severely hampered since the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran last winter. While the conflict is currently relatively quiet, there are reports—citing various sources—that the U.S. is planning new offensives.
