They are perhaps the most well-known Republican dynasty in the United States, counting two former presidents among their ranks. Yet, at least two members of the Bush family are voting Democratic this year in their home state of Texas—casting their ballots for Senate candidate James Talarico.
Neil Bush, son and brother of former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, writes on Facebook that he feels “deep concern regarding (Republican) Ken Paxton’s background, and sincere admiration for (Democrat) James Talarico’s character and adherence to principle.”
Paxton has been dogged by scandal and controversy, but Bush notes that it is primarily his support for Trump’s false claims of election fraud in 2020 that has prompted his reaction.
Polls ahead of the midterm election show a tight race between Paxton and Talarico.
Former President George W. Bush has not supported Donald Trump in any election. His daughter, Barbara Bush, supports Talarico and has contributed financially to his campaign, according to media reports.
