Middle East Crisis West Bank

Two Israeli soldiers killed in the West Bank

Two Israeli soldiers have died following an attack on Friday in the occupied West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated, according to the AP. Three others are reported to have sustained minor injuries.

According to the IDF, the attack was carried out by two armed Palestinian men. The perpetrators were also killed during an exchange of fire at an Israeli outpost, which lasted for approximately 20 minutes.

The military states that the soldiers prevented a terror attack against Israeli civilians.

Israeli minister seeks to launch offensive in the West Bank: “Exactly like the one in Gaza”

Bezalel Smotrich, Finance Minister in Israel’s far-right government, is calling for a military campaign in the occupied West Bank that is “exactly like the one in Gaza,” AFP reports.

“There is no other option but an extensive military offensive in Judea and Samaria to dismantle the Palestinian Authority, collect weapons, and eliminate terrorists—just as in Gaza and Lebanon,” he says.

He has made this a campaign promise ahead of Israel’s parliamentary election on Tuesday.

“In the next government, this must be one of the first measures we demand and implement,” he says.

The statement follows an incident on Friday morning in which five Israelis were shot and wounded in the West Bank. Smotrich has also ordered the demolition of several “illegal Arab buildings” near the site of the shooting.

Buildings in the West Bank demolished following attack

Israel has begun demolishing buildings in the occupied West Bank, CNN reports. This follows the launch of what the IDF describes as an “offensive operation,” initiated after an attack earlier on Friday in which two Israeli soldiers were killed.

Residents of Farsh al-Hawa, in the city of Hebron, have been ordered to leave. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the perpetrators came from that area.

“We will go from house to house, seize any weapons we find, and destroy all terrorist infrastructure.”
