South Korea seeks talks with North Korea
Following an incident in which South Korean soldiers were injured by landmines, South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense has proposed a meeting with North Korea to “jointly confirm the exact demarcation of the border.”
According to South Korea, the proposed talks would also address the restoration of communication channels.
The South Korean military estimates that North Korea has planted nearly one million landmines along the border between the two countries.
The proposal for new talks follows an explosion in the Demilitarized Zone in September, which injured three South Korean soldiers and further strained relations between the two nations.
