Judge orders Trump to provide testimony in BBC lawsuit
US President Donald Trump must provide testimony in a case in which he has sued the British public service broadcaster the BBC for $10 billion. A federal judge issued this order on Thursday.
Judge Enjoliqué Lett has set a deadline of December 11 for Trump to provide his testimony.
According to attorney Charles Tobin, who represents the BBC, the parties had agreed that Trump’s pre-trial testimony—ahead of a trial scheduled for early next year—would take place on October 16; however, this did not happen because the President cancelled.
The defamation lawsuit was filed after the television program "Panorama" edited together two segments of a statement the President made during a speech outside the White House on January 6, 2021. The segment appeared to suggest that Trump was urging his supporters to storm the Capitol.
