Kim Jong-Un on surprise visit to China
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un appears to be making an unannounced visit to China—his first in a year, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Citing an anonymous government source, Yonhap reports that Kim Jong-Un has arrived in the Chinese border city of Dandong. Kim reportedly crossed the border via a large bridge over the Yalu River, which was only officially inaugurated last week—twelve years after its completion.
However, neither North Korean nor Chinese state media have reported on any such visit.
In recent years, Kim Jong-Un has focused on strengthening ties with Russia, which has received North Korean soldiers and weapons for the war in Ukraine. Now, the North Korean dictator also appears to be working to bolster relations with China, the country’s most important ally.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Pyongyang in June.
