22 dead in attack on school building in Gaza – 30 injured

At least 22 people have been killed in an Israeli attack on a school building in Gaza City. This is reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health authority, according to AP.

A further 30 people are said to have been injured.

Israeli military states that the school functioned as a "command center" for the terrorist group Hamas.

Mahmud Bassal, spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense, told Al Jazeera that the school housed refugees.

Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of hiding command centers, weapons and fighters in schools and hospitals during the ongoing war. Hamas has denied it. According to the UN agency UNRWA, 181 refugee camps in Gaza have been bombed since the beginning of the war.
