This is how the crime against Hezbollah with pagers in Lebanon is supposed to have happened

Details: This is how the crime against Hezbollah with pagers in Lebanon is supposed to have happened

UPDATED TODAY 11:32 PUBLISHED TODAY 7:31 AM

First, a message appeared to come from Hezbollah leadership to at least 3,000 pagers. Seconds later they exploded.

By hiding explosives next to the battery in pagers, Israel allegedly carried out a high-tech attack that killed at least nine people and injured around 2,800 people, according to the New York Times. Israel has neither commented nor claimed responsibility for the act.

According to the New York Times, which refers to American and other anonymous sources, Israel is behind the explosions. According to CNN, the operation should be a collaboration between the Israeli military and the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.

At 3:30 p.m., local time, those who had their pagers turned on were said to have received a message that appeared to come from Hezbollah's leadership. It didn't, but instead activated a detonation. Around 1,000 pagers exploded shortly after signaling the message for a few seconds. In the attack, at least nine people were killed and around 2,800 people were injured, according to Lebanon's Ministry of Health.

We know this about the pagers that exploded in Lebanon

Earlier this year, Hezbollah restricted the use of cell phones. The reason why they instead use pagers is to avoid being monitored or tracked through mobile phones, according to the media. The callers can receive messages but not make calls.

Pagers were rigged with explosives

According to the news agency Reuters, 5,000 pagers must have been ordered by the company Gold Apollo several months ago. The New York Times writes that it is not known when the searchers arrived in Lebanon.

Before they were delivered, the pagers must have been tampered with with several grams of explosives placed next to the battery. According to the newspaper, a remote-controlled trigger must also be installed in the viewfinders.

According to Hsu Ching-Kuang, founder of the Tawiwan-based Gold Apollo, the pagers should not have been manufactured in Taiwan but instead in Europe by the company BAC.

- The design and manufacture of the product was handled entirely by BAC, he tells Sky News.

Also in Syria, pagers belonging to people allied with the movement are said to have detonated.

That Israel chose to detonate the pagers on Tuesday must have been due to Hezbollah being close to exposing them. According to Israeli sources, they planned to carry out the act in the event of a full-scale war against Hezbollah, writes Axios.

The act has caused great consternation among Lebanese. Several people have pulled the cord to the television and are said to be afraid to answer the phone when it rings.

- Many are unsure of what will happen now and how it will affect them, says freelance journalist Lina Malers, who is on the ground in Beirut.

IT'S A PASSENGER

A pager is a device that can receive calls or messages from a switchboard through signals. It is not possible to make contact from a pager, it can only receive messages.

Pagers do not emit any radio signals. Therefore, they have been used in, for example, hospitals, because they do not risk interfering with other devices. It is also used in other environments that are sensitive to disturbances, such as in technology-intensive factories.

Hezbollah uses pagers, among other things, to avoid Israel being able to track members.
