The Fed vs Inflation
Economists: Giving rye in the back to the Riksbank

That the American Federal Reserve dreamed of a double rate cut yesterday was an abnormal step. That's what SEB economist Robert Bergqvist tells SvD. But the reduction also gives other central banks "roast in the back" to dare to reduce more - including the Swedish one.

- The probability is increasing that the Riksbank may also consider a double reduction, says Bergqvist, but adds that he does not think the bank will do it now in September.

His SEB colleague Elisabet Kopelman agrees. She also believes that the Riksbank can now speed up the reductions because unemployment is higher here and the economy worse than in the US, she tells TV4.

The cannabis debate
Was the first to allow cannabis - now the companies are fleeing Uruguay

Uruguay was the first to legalize marijuana a decade ago - now the Latin American nation is seeing an exodus of cannabis companies, writes Bloomberg.

The idea was that the industry would have thousands of employees and exports equivalent to SEK 10 billion. Since 2018, Uruguay has exported cannabis products worth the equivalent of SEK 300 million and created 750 jobs.

Cannabis producer Burey overestimated how quickly it would be possible to get started.

- For a cannabis company that starts from scratch in Uruguay, it will take three, four years before you can start selling, says CEO Frank Roman to the news agency.

The companies die during that time if they don't have many who come in with capital, he adds.
