Iran and the US agree
The US and Iran have agreed on a peace agreement, writes AFP.
Now they are moving on to the next step, says Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
"Peace has never been closer," he writes on X.
US President Donald Trump declared on Friday, for the 38th time, that the war in Iran is over.
But for the first time, he also got Iran on board.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi came out a few hours later and announced that an agreement "has never been closer."
"In line with our responsible and transparent strategy, all details will be shared with the public in due course," he writes on X.
Sabotage campaigns
Shortly after 6 p.m., Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the parties had agreed on a final version of the agreement and that despite campaigns to sabotage the agreement, they were now moving forward.
“We put the murmuring aside and can confirm that a final, agreed text for the peace agreement has been reached and that Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps.”
Iran’s state news agency Mehr has seen the draft of the agreement and published a 14-point list.
Within 30 days
It mentions, among other things, that the war should end on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The naval blockade should be lifted within 30 days and $24 billion in frozen assets should be released to Iran.
In an interview with Axios journalist Barak Ravid, Trump said a deal could be signed over the weekend or on Monday. Earlier reports suggested the meeting could take place in Europe.
He also described Araghchi's remarks as "very positive."
