Middle East Crisis Peace Talks

Mediator: Iran and US agree on “final” peace deal

Pakistan says that Iran and the US have agreed on a peace deal, AFP and Reuters report. The country that has been acting as a mediator for two months says that the agreement is “final”.

“We are aware of the disinformation campaign that has been carried out by those who wanted to sabotage the peace deal. If we ignore all the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed version of the peace deal has been reached,” writes Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on X.

According to Sharif, all efforts are now being put into finalizing the final details.

“Peace has never been closer than now,” he writes further.

White House: Iran agrees to dismantle nuclear program

Iran has agreed to dismantle its nuclear program as part of the deal with the United States. This is stated by a White House official, according to sources to AFP.

At the same time, Donald Trump claims on Truth Social that the war with Iran is "over". In the update, he also insists that the countries are close to signing a declaration of intent.

Analysis: Iranian tone may indicate that something is afoot

President Donald Trump's statement that a memorandum of understanding with Iran is "close" is difficult to take seriously. This is because he has made similar messages a dozen times during the war, analysts say.

This time, however, there are signals that indicate that it is more serious than before, says SR's international correspondent Daniel Alling.

– What possibly indicates that something may be going on is that the tone from Iran is different, says Alling.

He points out, among other things, that Iranian state media has confirmed that there is now a draft framework for a memorandum of understanding.

Sally Lockwood from Sky News points out that it is difficult for many, not least the Iranians themselves, to trust what comes from Trump.

“For many, it feels like they have experienced this so many times before – that the US president seems to live in a parallel reality, separate from what is actually happening on the ground in the Middle East,” she writes.
