Finland seals off after deadly attacks in Russia
Russia claims that a number of civilians were killed in overnight Ukrainian drone attacks. At the same time, Finland closed a sea area, fearing drones that strayed across the border.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claims that up to 400 Ukrainian drones have been sent towards the Russian capital during the night towards Saturday.
“Since 8:30 p.m., more than 370 drones have flown in the direction of the Moscow region. Most of them were neutralized by air defenses from a long distance,” he wrote on social media.
In the Tambov region, about halfway between Moscow and Ukraine, seven people were killed and 24 injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on a logistics center, according to regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov.
Earlier this year, Ukrainian war drones linked to the Ukraine war have flown over Finland and the Baltic countries. Due to the risks, Finland closed off a sea area in southeastern Finland, closest to the border with Russia, on Saturday morning. After just over three hours, the defenses declared the danger over, and the area was reopened.
Several of Russia's largest oil terminals, which Ukraine likes to attack, are located near the borders with Finland and Estonia in the Gulf of Finland.
