US President Donald Trump is threatening to raise tariffs on Canada. The reason is that "dirty, polluted and unhealthy" fire smoke is pouring in across the border, according to him.

"We hold Canada accountable for the fact that they are not managing their forests properly," Trump writes on Truth Social, calling it "unacceptable."

Trump demands answers from Canada about what it intends to do about the problem. The cost of annually polluting the air in the United States will be added to the tariffs that Canada pays, he thunders.

Canada, in turn, emphasizes the shared responsibility for fighting fires, writes Politico.

In recent days, violent forest fires in Canada have worsened and sent smoke across the border. More than 200 fires are burning out of control in the province of Ontario. World Cup organizers have expressed concern ahead of Sunday's final match between Spain and Argentina in New York.
