Report: Zelensky considering firing Syrsky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is considering firing Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, a Ukrainian source told the Financial Times.

Syrsky has become one of the main targets of the protests after the firing of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who was very popular in the country.

The firing reportedly followed an internal power struggle between Fedorov and Syrsky.

According to the source, Zelensky could dismiss Syrsky if he finds a replacement who can ensure a smooth transition without weakening the defense at the front. However, the considerations are said to have only begun after

Poll: Social Democrats More Popular Than Maga

American voters are more likely to vote for Social Democratic candidates than for Maga candidates supported by Donald Trump in the midterm elections. This is according to a new CNBC poll.

32 percent of those surveyed say they are more likely to vote for a social democratic candidate, while 29 percent say they would rather vote for a candidate with Trump's support.

Social democratic candidates have won several of the Democratic primaries, which has raised concerns within the party establishment. Among other things, The Hill has reported on an internal power struggle between the party's centrist and progressive factions over which candidates will receive support in the primaries.

The midterm elections are often seen as a thermometer of support for the incumbent president. In the CNBC survey, more people say they prefer a Congress led by Democrats over Republicans – 49 percent to 45 percent.

Mass arrests in Turkey – suspected of IS links

On Saturday, 119 people suspected of having links to the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) were arrested across Turkey. The Turkish Interior Ministry reported this, according to the AFP news agency.

The arrests reportedly took place in a total of 30 different provinces, including Istanbul and the capital Ankara. The suspects are accused, among other things, of being members of IS, spreading IS propaganda and financing the terrorist organization, AFP writes.

In June, a person who was allegedly linked to IS was shot dead during a shootout with police south of Ankara.

Over 5,000 dead after the earthquake disaster

The official death toll after the earthquakes in Venezuela has now exceeded 5,000 people, the rescue services announced, according to AFP. According to the UN's assessment, around 50,000 people are still missing after the quake, writes TT.

Now, interim president Delcy Rodríguez has announced that the country will withdraw $346 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the most urgent needs.

The fires force new evacuations in Canada

A total of 955 forest fires are raging in Canada after 69 new ones emerged overnight, Reuters reports. The total burned area is still below the average for the past five years, but the fires have still raged through around 28,500 square kilometers.

The fires have also come dangerously close to the remote town of Fort Hope in northwestern Ontario, where around 600 people live. Residents are being evacuated, and the region's emergency manager, Eleanor Olszewski, announced on Friday that the military will assist in the effort.

Thousands of people have already been evacuated from communities in the southern parts of the fire-stricken region.

The fires have also worsened air quality in parts of the United States, angering Donald Trump. On Friday, he also threatened to increase tariffs on the neighboring country.
