Venezuela withdraws emergency funds from IMF

Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodríguez says the country will withdraw $346 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in the form of reserve assets, for reconstruction after the earthquakes in the country.

"This will help support the affected families with housing, infrastructure, essential public services and other needs," Rodríguez said on Telegram.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva confirmed the disbursement of the funds and said on X that the organization "has worked with key partners to help Venezuela access its own resources from the fund for urgent humanitarian needs."

The two earthquakes occurred in June and were the strongest in the country in over 100 years. Over 5,000 people have so far been confirmed dead after the disaster.
