The development of pharmaceuticals

Expert on Astra's potential giant deal: "Not exactly right"

A merger between Astra Zeneca and the American pharmaceutical giant Bristol Myers Squibb could strengthen the presence of the pharmaceutical giant in the US. At the same time, SB1 Markets' pharmaceutical analyst Johan Unnerus urges caution after the Financial Times' information about the talks.

- I would be a little skeptical and wait and see. It doesn't fit neatly into the business dynamics, he tells TT.

He emphasizes that this type of giant deal has been unusual in the pharmaceutical sector for the past two decades and that it is far from certain that the discussions will lead to an agreement.

Sources: Astra Zeneca in talks about billion-dollar deal

The Swedish-British pharmaceutical giant Astra Zeneca is discussing a possible merger with the American competitor Bristol Myers Squibb. This is stated by sources with insight to the Financial Times.

If the deal goes through, it will create one of the world's largest pharmaceutical groups, valued at around SEK 3,800 billion.

If the companies proceed with the merger, they will face extensive scrutiny from competition authorities, the newspaper writes.
