The US Navy is considering redesigning its upcoming aircraft carriers – because the president wants a more old-fashioned look.

According to The Washington Post, President Donald Trump wants the multi-story tower, which is located towards the rear, to be moved more towards the center. The reason: the fleet's largest ship should be more reminiscent of those during World War II, according to seven sources with insight.

It could cost billions and delay the entire project, where one ship is in service, one has been launched and two are being built.

The White House earlier this week requested a plan from the Navy to replace the modern electromagnetic catapult system, used to launch planes on the ships, with a steam and hydraulic-powered system on the USS Doris Miller, which began construction this year.
