Gotland’s air defense to be reinforced
Gotland will receive a stronger air defense next year, the Swedish Armed Forces announce.
The Air Defense Regiment (L6) in Halmstad has been tasked with establishing a sub-unit on Gotland, effective July 1.
“The security policy situation demands capability here and now, alongside ongoing adaptation. This applies to the Army in general, and to Gotland in particular,” says Chief of the Army Johan Pekkari in a press release.
The plan is to begin basic training for air defense units on the island next year. The regiment in Halmstad is currently the only one of its kind, and the Armed Forces see a need to conduct training in more locations.
“To manage the significant growth within the air defense branch, we need more personnel working in this field—and the foundation for that is training,” says Sofia Westermark, Commander of the Air Defense Regiment, in the press release.
