US envoy Steve Witkoff has met with Putin in Russia.

Putin now says he wants to meet with Trump – in China.

If this proposed meeting—reported by the Russian news agency Tass—takes place, it would be the first face-to-face encounter between the two presidents since their summit in Alaska last August.

However, no details have yet been provided regarding when such a meeting might occur.

American prisoner released

In connection with the meeting, Putin also announced that American citizen Stephen Hubbard, 74, has been released from a Russian prison.

According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the release was granted on humanitarian grounds. The US had reportedly been requesting Hubbard’s release for some time.

Hubbard, a retired teacher from Michigan, was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison after being accused of fighting on the side of Ukraine.

He was captured by Russian forces in April 2022.

On Wednesday, Hubbard was taken to Pulkovo Airport to return to the United States.

According to Tass, Witkoff plans to meet him at the airport.
