New attacks on Iran may follow US elections
The Israeli military made plans for a large-scale attack on Iran earlier in October.
However, these plans were halted by US President Donald Trump, who does not want the conflict to escalate before the midterm elections.
According to informed sources who spoke to the Financial Times (FT), Israel’s plan was to bomb Iran during the weekend around October 10. The bombing was intended to be extensive, targeting civilian infrastructure such as power plants and nuclear facilities.
But the plans were stopped by the US—at least for the time being.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly told the newspaper that “the US will not attack Iran at any point before the midterm elections.”
One of the FT’s sources stated that it is not an “implausible scenario” for the attacks to resume in the coming weeks.
“Either there will be a deal, or there will be an attack,” the source told the newspaper.
